This video is the presentation that the Sentinels performed for the Peel Regional Competition in Mississauga Ontario on Nov. 27th 2010. This team won the Grand Champions Award and 1st place in Robot Performance. They also earned the 1st place spot to proceed to the Ontario Provincial competition in Oshawa on Jan. 15th 2011. Their research project topic was Diabetes and eliminating finger pricking with their innovative "Sentinel" system, an bioimplant, watch and pump. (enjoy the video- we had fun making it!)
FIRST Lego League, FLL, releases a Challenge, which is based on a real-world scientific topic. Each Challenge has two parts: the Robot Game and the Project. Teams of up to ten children, with one adult coach, participate in the Challenge by programming an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field (Robot Game) and developing a solution to a problem they have identified (Project)
In the 2010 Body Forward™ Challenge, FLL teams will explore the cutting-edge world of Biomedical Engineering to discover innovative ways to repair injuries, overcome genetic predispositions, and maximize the body's potential, with the intended purpose of leading happier and healthier lives.
The Sentinel team is comprised of 7 children aged 10-14 who live in 3 different local cities, who meet once a week. They communicate mid-week through an online forum so they can get the full FLL experience. They have also "blogged" their experience at www.ebots.ca scroll down to the team 3663 button. Some of them are in their 3rd FLL year and the rest are in their second.
