I wonder if American soldiers at the time could handle as many Zulus the Welsh and British forces did at Rourk's Drift in 1879.

If you want to drop a man, you want the easiest target (the body mass) so the heaviest bullet available is the way to go - look at those nancy .223 rounds they use in NATO weapons these days - you can't beat the old 7.62mm NATO 'Ball' round! So yes, The MH round was the baby to use! :-)

In the "day" those old Martini rounds and US .45-70 rounds were just unbelievable monsters in stopping power.

I looked at the eclipse with the Celestia astronomy program and made a video of approximately what the eclipse would have been like. The video is with my YouTube videos. Search YouTube with -andrewburbidge eclipse
The program is freeware and there are instructions in the information for my video on how to use Celestia to see the eclipse.

It's interesting that there was no mention of it in Wikipedia's article on the Zulu War, but it did happen and I saw a TV documentary some years ago that discussed the advantage it gave the Zulus. It seems no one had thought to warn the British armed forces that an eclipse was imminent and who would have thought that a few minutes of twilight could be decisive in a battle? Yet the documentary maintained that it was.
