@carllundstrom it's probably overkill for pirates and smuggles, true.
but that's prob just the line they'd use for press releases to appease the public.
the real truth is that nations are a lot nastier to each other than they pretend to be.
that's where good boats become valuable assets.

@blorgensteen My problem wasn't with Kockums or Sweden's defence policy (of any time). My problem was with the ad: it' doesn't make sense to argue that stealth is necessary when your main threat come from pirates and drug smugglers, which this ad argues in the beginning. The ad feels American in the sense that i dramatises a small threat and makes it something it's not.

@carllundstrom Kockums builds military vessels. In the world of submarines, stealth = life.
there is no such thing as a submarine that is too stealthy., and there never will be.
this is an advert meant to make an impact on planners and policy makers.
as for "Sweden not being part of it", might I remind you that back in the days of the cold war, Sweden's policy towards submerged intruders was hardly one of open arms and welcome.
What better way to deter visitors than by superior submarines?

Though it's Swedish this ad feels too American to be taken seriously. I mean, if the threat is "piracy" and "drug smuggling" why would you need state of the art stealth technology to counter it? American mentality is more brawn than brain and I'm proud that Sweden is not like that, though this ad makes me question the validity of the previous statement!
