Thought I would upload a little more footage from The Movie Waterloo concerning The Duchess of Richmond's Ball of 15-06-1815
It appears no You Tuber has an inkling as to the pieces played at Her Grace's Ball ?
Below is a cut & paste from an earlier video regarding this matter : -

This footage comes from the very historically accurate "Waterloo." {Although there is the odd historical blemish, it is still highly factual} The question is what is the piece called as the Ladies & Officers Etc. danced the night away at The Duchess of Richmond's Ball ?
I may say it myself, but one does feel a bit of an expert in the finery of Battle Tactics regarding Waterloo, but can not place this wonderful piece, I even asked on Talk Back Radio a number of years ago after playing it down the line, but alas no following callers knew, as for any other goings ons at Her Grace's Ball that night, one should not take as read certain accounts, although I would fancy they would not be too far from what went on. It is the outcome of The Battle that changed European & indeed World History that interests an old reprobate such as I Lol. But one would give anything to have been a lad at that Ball on that night....dancing the night away before battle, those were the days !

  • Peter, re. the question you posed earlier. As far as the memory allows Sir William De Lancey DID NOT attend The Duchess of Richmond's Ball. This is one of my own You Tube videos & as you know I should know more than a little of this battle & it's all encompassing machinations, particularly concerning The Ball. Don't get me started on this again, please dear friend.

  • @erenbalkir Thank you for reminding me of this. I uploaded it nearly four years ago, it is indeed a beautiful piece & penned by a fellow named Nino Rota for the movie. This version of Waterloo (1970) is very true to time, one almost feels one was there....June 1815 & all that. Don't feel I would have been a survivor, but as long as I met my end advancing rather than retreating, contentment would follow my demise, for that time.

  • @1993DaVinci Actually,it was the Battle of Vitoria, where he defeated Napoleon's brother Joeseph, King Joeseph of Spain when he said that they were the scum of the earth. Actually, my favourite quote of Wellington's regarding his troops was "I don't know what affect these men have on the enemy, but, by God, they frighten me."

  • @freebeerfordworkers Actually I believe the second was two seperate quotes, it was shortly after he had cornered the french at Salamaca and won, gaining the caravans numerous treasures from the royal household itself....which Wellesleys army proceeded to ransack, hence the anger.

  • Curiously tagged.

  • One of the great part quotes of history which is presented in various forms the most usual being,

    Wellington,

"They are are the scum of the earth"

    He actually said,

"They are recruited from the scum of the earth and it is remarkable we have made them the fine fellows they are."

  • It's Cock o' the North, the quick march of the Gordon Highlanders. Google it or search it here and you'll find plenty of different arrangements.

  • What mindless piffle engages movie-makers!!!

  • Does anyone know how to find this scotish marsch?

  • wellington had already met with miffling while he was getting ready for the ball..he took all the necessary precautions and saw no reason not to go to the ball...typical british coolness have to admire the duke
