Hobby King retracts installed in a Guillows P-38. A bit snappy but seem to do the job.

  • could you please give me the specifics regarding these retracts.I purchase heaps of stuff from hobbyking.I just would like to know what to purchase regarding size.thanks

  • Hey, you can get these nematic retracts from HK. they are the micro retracts, smallest they make. Small Air Operated Retracts kit 2-WayValve are the closest to what I had gotten. If I did it again I would go with the smallest electric retracts I could find. Thanks

  • Hey Beautiful Build,

Look forward to seeing more of this plane.

    Thanks,

  • Thanks, It has ben fun. Slow progress lately due to the holidays. Hope to have it all together in early 2010. Merry New Year. -M

  • I put a wheel collar on the air line, and collapsed it most of the way. That slowed the "up" considerably, and weighed next to nothing.

  • Thanks RD. I forgot about that tip when I built the Tempest. I'll give it a try.

  • I love that song

  • Those gear are operating way too slow! What if you need to make an emergency landing? Ever think about that-HMMMMM?

  • oh i see... yes I have heard about air retracts... didn't realize these where them.

  • Thanks B, I did think about a reducer. These are spring air retracts. They actuate with air up and spring down. Robart makes a restrictor valve but it is a bit heavy for this application. I considered the Sonic retracts when I started but at the time there were several reports of failures (stripped plastic gears). Seems they have it worked out now though. Oh well maybe the next P-38 I build........ M
