The Evolution of Final Fantasy [13] Gilgamesh (Part 1)

Part 13 in a series that takes a look at the history of one of the greatest gaming franchises of all time, chronicling the many recurring themes, characters and monsters that have appeared over the years. This entry focuses on the infamous sword hunter that always ends up getting his ass kicked, Gilgamesh (Part 1 of 2). Enjoy!

Notes regarding this video (please read before commenting!):

- For the entire series, I have simply gathered video footage from various sources on YouTube and compiled them together. I've done this only to entertain the many fans of Final Fantasy here on YouTube, so with that said, many thanks to all the folks who took the time to record the game footage.

- Again, for the whole series, I've focused solely on the main games. Remakes and updates of those games are featured, but I've opted to skip games like Tactics, FFX-2 and such. I had to draw the line somewhere to keep a reasonable length.

- Gilgamesh doesn't appear in the original FF game, but he was added later in the remakes, so in the video he goes.

- There's a guy named Gigameth in FFIII. Close, but no cigar.

- In the US release of FFIV (GBA), there is a monster named Gilgamesh, but this is a mistranslation, so it doesn't count.

- The FFV segment runs pretty long, but it's the only title where ol' Gilgy plays a fairly major role, so I was quite thorough.

- The FFVI version only appears in the GBA/onward remake.

Since Duodecim confirmed that Gilgamesh's many appearances have all been the same person, Gilgamesh is officially the character with the most appearances. Come on Square Enix; make Final Fantasy: The Epic of Gilgamesh. The premise could be Gilgamesh's many journeys through the different worlds fighting many of Final Fantasy villlians and finally a climatic boss fight with Bartz at the end with Clash on The Big Bridge playing. That would be awesome.

Can you really consider listing the versions that were added in later remakes of older games (eg FF1) as part of the evolution when it's clearly a version of Gilgamesh that's newer than the FF5 and FF8 versions, etc?
