Rolando you give BRIVIDI! Bravo

Villazon is probably the best contemporary Lensky. The pronunciation isn't perfect but isn't bad either. His interpretation is more forceful than the Russian canon (think Gedda/Lemeshev/Sobinov). Yet, it's pretty awesome in its own right!

Lemeshev was just too weak. Lensky was not a flat footed 4f runt. Some muscle in the tone is appropriate. Villazon would be a much more believable than Lemeshev in this role. Wunderlich should have sung in Russian. He is good, but the older recording is not as good, and I just cannot get over the different language. This song should be sung in Russian, not any other language.

this is not very good

When I think of Lenski, I think of the fragility that was Tchaikovsky himself. That's why a Wunderlich or Lemeshev sounds so fitting to his style. Villazon's is a bit too muscular for me. A beautiful instrument, to be sure. If he has had vocal problems in the past, please blame it on the huge opera houses, the huger orchestras and the nasty conductors who couldn't care less about hushing their instrumentalists or taking tempos that lend themselves to good vocalism.

@bbahyt Well, as a Russian I can say his Russian is absolutely fine. When you deal with opera singing even native speakers don't always sing clearly. And BTW, Nikolaj Gedda grew up bilingual (Swedish and Russian) so when you hear him singing Lenskiy you should bear in mind that his proninciation is perfect cause he actually speak Russian as his native language..
