Canadian ship's effort to breach Israel's naval blockade of Gaza was quashed when Israeli forces boarded the vessel.
Israel is provoking through its inhuman and illegal blockade of Gaza. Blockade unnecessarily punishes all residents of the already poverty-stricken Gaza area.
Last year, Israel came under condemnation for opening fire on another ship attempting to run the blockade. Israeli troops killed nine Turkish and activists who resisted calls to abort their mission.
Canadian Vessel the Tahrir was illegally intercepted by the Israeli Navy on Friday November 4 2011. Activists reported that they were tasered and beaten by the Israeli military. Other international delegates were also reportedly beaten as they non-violently refused to be kidnapped from their ship. Apparently, they were also told they could be held in prison for two months without charges or trial. To avoid this, it seems that the judge told them, they must sign a statement that they entered Israel "voluntarily" and "illegally" despite being violently kidnapped from international waters and taken to Israel against their will while trying to reach Gaza.
Karen DeVito was released and deported while the Canadian Government demanded that she pays for her own airfare.
Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird has also said Canada can't protect Canadians who are against anything to do with Israel.
