How to create a MIDI foot controller for Mac only (10.5+) using only an old keyboard and free software and then map it to loop in Mainstage (though you can use any program really) Super easy! Check out my channel for some vids where I actually use it.

Midi Keys (free, Mac OSX 10.5 and above):

  • Dude, this has actually saved me haha, such a great idea, using an old keyboard and assigning each key, brilliant. Great idea if you have a budget!

    Thanks a lot mate

  • @oli140 Yeah, it definitely works out really nicely! I'm glad it helped! It's ridiculous how much companies can charge for simple little buttons you press with you're feet...

  • Will it work on system 10.4

  • @ordgjazzer only if you can find an older version of MidiKeys. The current version (1.8) is for OSX 10.5 and up only. I haven't tested this, but the previous version (1.7 beta) says it supports Tiger, so you might give that a try. Tell me if it works! Just try googling MidiKeys 1.7 Good luck!

  • This worked great!!! The only problem I have is it doesn't work in perform mode but works fine in edit mode really just a minor inconvenience. Any ideas thought as to why it won't work on the perform screen of MainStage 2?

  • thx...this save me bunch of bucks lol, works on Tiger 10.4.11 :P using the 1.7b1 version and now using with Guitar Rig 2 and 3
