The Waushakum Live Steamers, located in Holliston, MA, holds a Spring Steam Up meet every May. Your intrepid videographer visited on Sunday, May 17th for the 2009 meet, and traveled deep into the woods for those perfect shots. I climbed massive boulders, trekked through thick foliage, and clambered up steep hillsides with tripod and camera in tow, all the while fighting off mosquitoes as large as quarters.

Two and a half hours of filming, plus an hour in the editing room brings you this, one of few videos of the WLS in all it's forest splendor. You'll see several different trains traveling up grades, blasting through Steve's Tunnel, and roaring through "Railfan's Lookout" plus an exclusive look at loading up the railroad equipment at the end of the day. This is a video you WON'T want to miss!

All right, maybe the mosquitoes weren't actually the size of quarters. But the rest is true! It's only dramatized just a little bit...

  • Can I drive that SW9/1200? LOL Great vid Ty!

  • Thanks! They were actually letting people (non-members!) drive it as everyone else was packing up (that's when I saw people operating it) but there were a whole bunch of adults gathered around it, and being a teen, I'd be last on the list to run it and had to leave before I got a chance.

  • I 've been to this place before, i also have a video of a 16inch backyard railway in my neighbors back yard. Can we go there even if we are not members?

  • They hold several open houses every year, and I believe they let people visit during their regular operating days every Sunday. Check their site for details.
