Ramsey Emmanuel Lewis, Jr. (born in Chicago, Illinois May 27, 1935) is an American jazz icon, composer, pianist and radio personality. He has been referred to as "the great performer", a title reflecting his performance style and musical selections which display his early gospel playing and classical training (Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, etc.) along with his love of jazz and other musical forms. Ramsey Lewis has recorded over 80 albums and has received five gold records and three Grammy Awards.

Les Fleur" is a song from 1971. It was performed by Minnie Riperton, written by her husband Richard Rudolph & Charles Stepney and was featured on the album Come To My Garden. In 2001, a cover of it was made by 4hero with Carina Andersson as the lead vocalist. It was later featured in a Baileys commercial and the chorus section is especially popular in advertising due to its building and lively nature - for instance recently in an advertisement for the BBC's Life in the Undergrowth wildlife documentary.

  • Thanks for putting it up. I actually played the synth on two of the tracks of this LP: the Chopin piece (the arpeggiated stuff), and a few sounds on the Superwoman arrangement. 'Been a while. Was living in Chicago then, and 'Tom Tom' called me up in the middle of the night for a session next day. Cool. - Mark Priest

  • Mr Stepney.

  • top tune!

  • @JonasClark Don't feel bad. I thought they were singing "Everybody sings in sun and showers". LOL!!

  • @MoosicandCritters Thx for the share Terri Jane. Like everyone says - this is a real winner of a song. I added it to my smooth jazz favorites playlist. My channel of 700 playlists is built through friends like you. I bet it's the biggest team effort on youtube!!! chuck

  • This is the best version! Thank you for posting this. They used to play it on the smooth jazz station in Charlotte, NC back in the 90's when I lived there. Truly a timeless piece of music!

  • Lovely!

  • @jwmellott There is a 3rd version - his original from the Ramsey Lewis 1968 album "maiden voyage" which is posted on YouTube. I think Minnie Ripperton actually provides the backing vocals. Lets face it - it's just a CLASS piece of music.

  • There are now three cuts of this I've heard; the old 60s version with the light French singing; this version (never could understand the singer, as a kid it sounded to me like "Everybody think about a shovel"), and another with less of a chill-groove sound that I think must have been between these two. Love all of 'em.

  • There was an older version that I heard and had when I was a radio dj in the 60's and thought the vocal was done Dionne Warwick, but turned out it was Minnie Ripperton... In any event, a terrific song and I still get chills when I hear it. Thanks for the post!
