Demi sneezed as she made her way to the bathroom, followed by a groan and then a cough. Her heels clicked against the tile and her sparkled black dress glinted against the bathroom lights. She sneezed again as she poured the contents of her makeup bag onto the sink counter.
Another groan.
The pattern repeated. Sneeze. Cough. Groan. Eye shadow.
Sneeze. Cough. Groan. Eye liner.
Sneeze. Cough. Groan. Lip glo-
"Ugh! I give up!" She yelled, frustrated, as she slammed the tube of lip gloss down onto the counter and made her way out of the bathroom, over to her room, almost tripping over her own two feet. She angrily took off her heels, throwing them to the corner of the room as another sneeze came on. As she reached for her cell phone she wiped a tissue across her nose, sniffling.
Joe answered on the third ring.
"Yes?" His voice was agitated, annoyed. She had already called him twice yesterday, angry, that she wanted him on time tonight.
"Don't come." She said. Her voice was off, weird, but he didn't pay attention to that at the moment. His anger was taking over.
He got ready all special and left extra early to be there on time to pick her up and go to the restaurant and now she's telling him to NOT COME?
"What do you mean?" He asked tightly as he pulled into the driveway.
"I mean don't come. I'm sick. I'm not going."
"I can't go without you. What will people think then?"
He heard her sigh as he got out of the car and walked to her door.
"Just tell them that I'm sick." Sneeze.
"Just open your door." He mocked her tone of voice then snapped his phone shut and put it in his back pocket.
A second later the door creaked open. And there, in all her glory, was Demi. Nose red, lips chapped, hair pulled up into a messy bun...and in sweats.
He hadn't seen her like this since they first started dating about 4 years ago.
"Whoa." was all he said.
"I told you." She grumbled as she walked away from the door and into the living room of her small house. Joe closed the door behind him as he followed her.
"Well you're gonna have to suck it up." He said.
"I don't want to go."
"What?"
"I don't want to go." She repeated, turning to face him. He noted that her eyes looked tired.
"Demi, this dinner party is huge. It's for your job. Do you know how important this is?"
There was a long pause, as she looked at him in disbelief. Where was the man she got together with 4 years ago? The one who was happy to stay in and eat take out and watch TV? The one who didn't give her the look he's giving her now? The one who didn't care if she looked horrible, either way he still called her beautiful?
"Can't we stay in? Just the two of us? No other people, no makeup, no heels, no dresses or suits or coats or ties?" She didn't realize she was crying and coughing at the same time until his hand was patting her back and his other hand was wiping her tears.
"You really want to do that?"
"Just like we used to."
There was silence for a couple of seconds as Demi pulled herself away from the man she didn't recognize and lied down on the couch, just wanting to cocoon herself in a blanket and drink hot tea.
She didn't notice, though, Joe as he took off his coat, loosened his tie and threw it on the armchair by the couch, and removed his shoes.
He then disappeared from the room.
Demi already had her eyes closed, but she reopened them when she felt herself being moved. She looked up at Joe just in time to see him smile at her.
"I love you, Demi. And you remember I'm willing to give you anything you want." He said to her, cupping her face softly in his hands.
"You don't want to?" She asked softly, her voice hoarse.
"Of course I want to. Why do you think I would let you drag me to all those office parties? To be with YOU. I'll follow you anywhere, baby."
He pressed his lips against hers for a second, then they both gradually pulled back.
And Demi and Joe both equally knew, that there would be no going out for a long while-unless necessary-, they would stay in and enjoy each other's company.
Together they curled up on the couch, a warm dark green blanket engulfing them and Demi's hands around her warm cup of tea that he brought her, they watched that old horror movie they loved to watch, quoting the lines and saying to each other what was going to happen next. As the moon rose and the stars shined outside they laughed, smiled, shared sweet kisses, joked, even tried wrestling-which of course Joe won-, just like they used to...

Amazing, but that's nothing new :D I don't care if you update your series or if you just upload one shots, as long as there's something written by you that I can read while being sick... I wished I had a Joe to watch horror movies with :D
