I wrote this song for one of the great ladies whose warmth and humor helped me through a difficult time. Lyrics below for any who want to sing along.

Three notes:

1. This song is copyright 2009 Alex Panzetta Music/Words and Music by Alex Panzetta
...
2. Yes, I was not in the best of health when I made this video but I ran out of time if I wanted to make it for her birthday and I did.

3. The secret to songwriting success: write a final chorus that is out of your natural range and that you need to be in best of health to sing. Enjoy the results.

EMMALENE

In the great white North, there are majestic vistas,
Of cascading water in fields of gold and green,
And a festival of lights beyond imagination,
Illuminating silver grey skies so pristine
But the beauty that's found there,
Can in no way compare,
To you, my friend, Emmalene.

Heaven smiled down upon me when I found you,
Have you ever seen a white girl dance like this,
And whatever the mood or the message,
You always seal it by blowing a kiss,
It was a stroke of good luck,
The day I found the crazy Canuck,
Emmalene, you're nothing that I want to miss.

How can such joy be contained in one person,
How can she have such strength and compassion, too,
And don't question her heart or her humor,
Or her strength of character so true,
Come the flames or the rising tide,
I will always stand by your side,
Emmalene, I believe in you.

I've heard tell of times that could not be more perfect,
In times of despair, the tears in your eyes I've seen,
And your heart just wants to take to you to a place,
A place that turns you cold and mean,
Let me hold the mirror to your face,
To illuminate the grace,
The grace that is you, Emmalene.

I've heard you raise your voice up to the heavens,
And I've seen all the fools try to keep you down,
But, Emma, take it from one who knows better,
God does not waste His time on the proud,
As long as you sing your song,
I'll always sing along,
Emmalene, you can dream so dream out loud.

Tonight, I'm dreaming of a distance so vast,
With all the miles in between,
So I'm bridging that gap down the only road I can,
The one in your heart where transcendence is seen,
I'm thanking God for giving the gift of life,
To Alice's mom and Michael's wife,
Happy birthday, Emmalene.
