  • Karajan also sings. I know is a mistake, but if you feel the music in your heart, any rule can disappear.

Anyway, I think he (and Karajan, and also all the conductors) is not singing. He is just moving his lips according to the lyrics.. just phonomimic. I do that when I conduct this symphony...

    Peace.

  • Please understand; he is only texting since the chorus sang the piece by heart. (I know since I was there!) In other words, Dudamel also knows not only the music but the text by heart. He is a great conductor and such a warm and generous personality.

  • @moltoallegro19 overconduct? that's precisely what Dudamel makes... overconduct.

I'm not a pro and 'm not attacking him, I think that Dudamel is a very important contribution to the music, especially to the young people, but there's exist a lot of things that i dont like from him.

greetings from chile, sorry for my terrible english!

  • @Josep489 If a conductor feels that the orchestra knows what to do and trust that they can stay in tempo without him/her controlling every second of a passage (which I suppose Dudamel do from time to time with his own orchestra) there is no harm in taking a short break and enjoying the music. And you wouldn't wanna over-conduct (conduct more than necessary and throw your baton around for no reason, just in order to "conduct" the whole piece), that's just silly.

  • a conductor must do his job... conduct!

Karajan and Bernstein felt too music on their hearts, but they NEVER stop the conducting for sing, never!!

anyways... Dudamel is a great conductor and he's too young!! but needs more experience

  • I love Bernstein's interpretation so much more.

  • I was there. And next week it's Beethovens first, Dudamel is quite something to have on stage, im excited.

  • ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • In fact you're right, Im studing conduction and singing it's a big mistake! But... anyway he might be my favourite conductor, and I really love his energy and passion.

  • why the heck is he singing? he's supposed to be a conductor. do you think that's how Beethoven conducted it?
