This is a very strange movie, but in a great way....has a strong cult following. I remembering watching this and realizing that they never played the great title song by Harold Arlen once straight through!
I recognized Elia Kazan right away......he was a MUCH better director and writer than actor. And who knew he knew how to boogie too! I can dig it, daddy-o!
Blues In the Night 1941 (songbird) Priscilla Lane (siren) Betty Field Richard Whorf (criminal) Lloyd Nolan Jack Carson Wally Ford Elia Kazan Peter Whitney Billy Halop Ernest Whitman Prisoner at beginning of movie (8:22) We all got the miseries in here. Montages by Don Siegal Director Anatole Litvak Title song and lyrics by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer Jimmy Lunceford and His Band, Will Osborne and His Band

Boogie Woogie... the introduction of straight 8ths into jazz, and thus, the bedrock of rock'n'roll....
Billy Halop was the drummer? A Dead End Kid, right? And Kazan was the nhudz that doesn't want to be a lawyer, yes?
