A surfer may occasionally jump a shark called "jumping the shark" but seems the shark was jumping the surfer this time. A cameraman was out by the ocean filming a story about surfing at New Smyrna Beach in Florida, when suddenly he catches what is supposedly a four-foot spinner shark jumping out of the water and flying right over a surfer trying to catch a wave. Was it a shark or was it something else? I did some investigating to find out what is going on. In this video I have some answers about the video "Shark jumps over surfer"

This shark was not big like a great white shark but the way it jumps defines how many sharks jump. When sharks get hungry and see a fish swimming above they will chase after it and if it is above then the shark will be flying up at the fish and flying into the air above the water making sure it catches it's meal. Sharks tend to do this in a very sloppy and messy way. Dolphins tend to be more precise and artistic about their jumping and it is more for fun than for attacking prey.

We were very close to the New Smyrna Beach are recently and we were talking about the large number of shark attacks that occur in the Daytona Beach area. Fact: Spinner sharks jump out of the water catching fish to eat.

  • It was a spinner shark for all of you people wondering why it's so small, it's nowhere near a dolphin, and to close to shore for a tuna

  • @muntu1221 Thanks for sharing. They are fortunate that it wasn't a Great White!

  • I like the way you talk, relaxing with a dash of industrial noise. Ever thought about recording speech samples for radio, or even music?

  • @pwyvern Thanks. Never thought much about it but my kids like when i do different voice impersonations.
