What is missed here is the fract that the government can't lift the population as a whole out of poverty. Certainly it can create a narrow group of rich men. But the only thing that creates prosperity is productivity and the free market. The only thing that guarantees a retirement is productivity, savings, and the free market. Social Security is a ponzi scheme. It isn't based upon income-generating investment.

Several nations, including Chile, have had incredible gains from privatizing SS. We have everything to gain and very little to lose from privatizing our own system. It's time we do it. Government shouldn't be in the business of retirement. It should be the individual's responsibility. We're not "all in this together." We're individuals first. We just collectively engage in society because it's most advantageous.

Wrong again, dumbo. Fascism is way more socialist than capitalist. And the "corporatism" quote from Mussolini isn't even confirmed. No one really knows where it came from. Plus, any historian knows that "corporations" in Mussolini's Italy were NOT the same as what we refer to now with that word. "Corporations" in Fascist Italy were boards of elites in different industries and societal sectors that ran that particular part of society.

The arguments against privatizing SS are incredibly weak. If you were able to use your payroll tax and invest it, you'd get about 8X more return on your investment than with the small-ass social security checks seniors currently get every month. I'd rather put my retirement in MY hands than the government's.

Actually, the current system IS a disgrace after all. Don't force me to pay for someone else's retirement. Don't force me to pay for retirement money the gov't handles. Screw them.

Exactly. It's a ponzi scheme. People need to invest for their OWN retirement, not force me to pay for it. It's ridiculous. If I wanted to opt out and not pay payroll tax, I couldn't.

US people should take a look at how Social Security actually works. Do not support this program just because senior citizen can get money every month in the expense of future generation. If the senior citizen know that he/she is gonna put huge burden on his children/grandchildren because of this program, Out of parents' love to their children, I bet he/she will choose to suffer instead of taking money from social security.

Haha. "At the expense of the future generation". That's priceless.

Look, if you work from the age of 18 (or earlier) until you're 65, you deserve better than to just die in a gutter after you can't work anymore.

In fact, ANY citizen of this country deserves better than to just be cast aside and expected to die in the gutter.

It's pretty sad that we're the only modern nation who's general population is this greedy. And where has this greed gotten us? #40-something in education, health, etc.
