@808Productionz There is no excuse not to learn Hawaiian. There are vast resources on the language everywhere. It's a personal decision not to learn the language. I do have more respect for Hawaiians who actually speak the language than those who don't, but I wouldn't go so far as to label you a false Hawaiian just because you don't speak the language. Also, when using the English term "Hawaiian," no glottal stop is used. It is incorrect to write it with an ʻokina in that case.
-
@IslandBoricua92 I think Kanehawaii has a really good point. Learning to speak Hawaiian is imperative. Blood lineage is important, but it becomes nearly meaningless if you still think, speak and act like a foreigner.

@Rachulie Agreed!

@Breezamon naw never been there. i love me some warm water. hell, even hot water lol . i get cold easy. in ga it's normally 100 in the summer and 60 in the winter. but like i said ppl in hawaii r great.
-
@Rachulie I guess it makes sense for the water to be cold but I would have never thought of it, thanks for the heads up, lol. Ever been to Haiti, the water there is warm and so pretty ;)

@Breezamon hawaii water feels freezing to a gulf coast kid like u and i. i lived in tampa. and hawaii isnt as hot as florida. but just a heads up. the water is coooold compaired to the gulf of mexico. wish someone had told me that when i moved here lol. the ppl make up for it tho. the ppl here are awesome.
-
@Rachulie Nope, but I would love to visit someday. I am original from the panhandle of Florida (where the southerns live) but now live in NC. I actually hate the cold so the idea of living on a tropical island sounds like a dream come true, as I am also an ocean baby. Hopefully I can find a graduate school somewhere tropical after I finish my undergrad ;)
-
@Rachulie Yes, I was pretty sure you did not mean it that way, I just wanted to make sure that others realize this as well. Us southerners have a hard enough time already ;)
I definitely understand where you are coming from though. I can't believe how some people act and sometimes I think we only send our idiots to other places around the world. My youngest sisters are also only half white so I do very much understand that side of the coin as well.
Eh .. no fight. Da Hawaiian language was almost dead.. was beaten out of most of da kupuna from grama time... now you laugh when young people try and you talk all kine palu to eachother..being Hawaiian is more then language, it if faith and culture and belifes, Ohana, food and music and laughter that is not harmful. I have been told so much times that even pidgin is not acceptable, in school and at work. sheesh you don't pick on a guy from Texas for saying YA'LL it's called respect, try it.

language is the heart of any culture. It is really important for all POLYNESIANS to learn / understand & speak their ancesters words, their ancestors' life stories & myths. It's the only way to keep your beautiful culture ALIVE for your future generations.
there are so few 'pure blood' Polynesians . . . once they are all gone . . .if the mixed Polynesians don't learn their languae / culture. who will save their ancestors' culture, beliefs?
