@wraithguardian They weren't trying to get more energy from the reactor, they were going ahead with a low power test, with a team of men knowing barely anything about carrying out the test, as well as ignoring warning signs from early on. Have a read of the wikipedia article on it. And, yes, I do know wikipedia isn't the most reliable source, but for something this famous, it shall be more right than wrong.

so many people died for what .... failure of few to folow simply instructions? Because some idiot plant manager wanted to squeeze out a little more energy outa the reactor now half the country is affected by radiation.

BTW. All pilots from all helicopters died in hospitals in a few days after disaster.
