Zellas Distemper cough- Puppy with canine distemper survived

My puppy had distemper. She survived. If you have a dog with distemper let me know what advice i can give you.

FIrst thing to do is get a nebulizer. I think the medicine was called genticin. Give the dog four treatments a day. That saved Zella's life for sure!! She was tired and completely out of it and every time we got a hold of nebulizer, she perked up instantly. The vet can give a treatment and give you a prescription to buy a nebulizer. Also, they will probably need an IV for fluids.

I also read some research on Vitamin A. If you give it to them right away it could help them out.

Distemper is not curable but if you can get your dog through the pnemonia then they may have a chance.

-The shelter woman took her back for two days to nebulize her. She did great for about two days and was acting like norma.

-Then she started coughing again and we got the nebulizer full time. She still had more clavimox to take.

After about two or three weeks she started to improve.

-Took her back to the vet. She got a nebulizer, booster shot, xrays, two antibiotics. she said she would put her down if its distemper. She needed an IV once a day for a week.

-She came back a little bit. Then came back down with the cough. Took her to get tested for distemper and it came back positive.

-Took her home on a Saturday, Tuesday she started coughing. She was also throwing up and had diarrhea

-Wed, Took her to the vet, got stomach medicine

-Thursday- took her back bc the cough was worse. Got antibiotics--clavimox.

-Finished the clavimox and she was still coughing.

Im sorry to hear your dog is sick. I would recommend taking her to the vet and getting the distemper test. If you got the dog from a shelter, the shelter may pay the bill. Also, my dog had a lot of anitbiotics but thats because they didnt know what she had. The nebulizer (an asthma machine) really saved her life.

What are the odds of a 3 yr old dog to survive distemper? she didn't show any symptoms of Distemper until she had a Seizure and she is paralyzed from her hips and down, she can't move her legs nor tail. She can't poop either :( i'm really sad cause her stomach is swelling up and I'm afraid it's poop that will blow up her intestines is she doesn't go :(

my 4 year old lab has the kennel cough, took her to the vet the other day and her vet said that she's not yet sure if she has distemper, i hope she gets well soon. :( how is your dog? :)
