  • Wrong tool forthe job

  • @Cumbriahandyman I know this is not the tool that most installers use, but if you don't want to spend the money for the right tool, I was showing how you could do this a less expensive way....especially if you only need to cut a couple door jambs & you don't plan on installing any other floors anytime soon. why spend the extra money on tools you won't be using again? I try to show that there's always another way. Thanks for commenting. Joe :0

  • I have done what you have done. I had 5 doors to do. I went to Lowes and bought a portacable saw that has a 1" wide blade and it vibrates can be used as a sander in corners as well..it did all 5 oak doors in minutes..using the new flooring as a guide plus 1/8" under it to allow for a easy slide in. It makes this job easy. Sure we can do it with the backsaw..but this tool makes it easy.

  • @MarkJonesRanger Great idea you have there. I wanted to show it this other way in case someone didn't have the money to purchase a tool as you have explained. I wanted someone to know they could still do their project by using a cheap little backsaw like the one I showed. Thanks for your comments. How did your floor project come out? Joe :0

  • @VideoJoeKnows Hi Joe. It's coming along fine. I have a hallway and 3 doors left. I saw on youtube 4 others using a handsaw as well. Yet this tool makes it easy and if your sawing up agaist another wall this is the only tool that will work...no room to use a saw. Also on these doors they have carpet or vinyl on the other side of the door..So I was able to cut out half of the jamb up to where the door is in closed position.

  • @MarkJonesRanger Glad to hear your project is going great. Good way to undercut the door jambs, especially if you just want to cut half of the bottom as you've explained. Thanks for the tip. I appreciate your comments, so other viewers can benefit from your knowledge! Joe :0

  • @staydreamer1 There are different ways to undercut a doorjamb.....but not as fun! Joe :0

  • Noises- v.funny. advice-v.helpful. thanks 'Joe' :)

  • @joycek207 I wasn't making the huffing & puffing up either! It was only because the door jamb material was old & it was douglas fir & not just a pine door jamb. I'm sure hubby will be able to cut right through! They have a special saw you can get for this but I figured I would show how someone could do it with a cheap backsaw. Everyone has $10 bucks they can afford....right? I don't want you to have to spend much money. That needs to stay in your pocket! Thanks for commenting. Joe :0

  • Thanks, Joe! My husband was stuck and we found this video. Off he went saying "Oh yeah! I can do that!" BTW...the huffing and puffing really gives this an authentic touch. :)
