The music is a track by Lars Erik Fjosne that I've had on my hard drive for about 5 years, you can download it here http://soundcloud.com/livinglars/lars...

[Saxxy Awards winner, 2012. Best Drama]

Thank you for Everyone who Voted for this and helped it to succeed. I believe the bulk of the credit for this video should go to Lars for his amazing music composing. His songs are always such that I dont even need to think, the video just flows from the music. Thanks to sarcasmosaur for the awesome vested medic, and a secret thanks to Norpoify, who posted up the DMX for his short "Patient" which served as the original file basis for this video ( though extremely modified and torn apart). I'd also like to take a second to tip my hat to Soimon , with his entry "story of a sentry". I believe that a video only needs to do one thing well to succeed, and in my opinion, his amazing characterization of the sentry outshines any single element in my video. Give him some love and respect, that guy has fantastic instincts and I think he deserved to win too. you can check out his entry here.

A little abstract tale, read into it what you want.
DRAMA entry for Saxxies 2012.
This piece took me 4-5 days to put together. the map is Black_void, one of the stock sfm maps. If you are interested in an alternate version of this movie, I have an earlier somewhat different version here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScEKQv...

One of the top complaints I've gotten about the piece, is the little bit of violence at the end being too cartoony, which I agree with, but the way it is now just has a special place in my heart, and I couldnt bear to change it.

here's the DMX and all the required files, if anyone wants to toy around or disect the project. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/72478892/New...

additional credit goes to benjamoose, who also did some work on the meet the medic props, which was unfortunately unknown to me at the time of posting this.

My interpretation of it is that he used Archimedes as a test for a new medicine of his, which resulted in it's death. Disgruntled, he tests the medicine on himself, resulting in a hallucination. The masked medic is the sick part of him that does not care for life and only wants to experiment, the part of his personality that eventually took the life of Archimedes. The medic desperately wants to kill that part of him; The loss of Archimedes is what gave him the final push and gave him rest.

The other medic represents his past self. The medic, through death realises the significance and value of his friend. He realises that he had neglected his bird friend and locked Archimedes in a cage until it died. He wants to destroy his older self. The medic that neglected his friend and locked it in a cage. In his hallucinogenic high, medic is able overcome his past self and reunite with his friend... Until the high wears off. He is brought back to reality. The harsh reality.

I was correcting him, not criticising him.

I thought the 'medicine' he took was the infamous 'pink juice/fluid' used during the euthanasia process. Like, the Medic was so distraught over the anguish of losing his beloved pet that he decided to end his own life. I don't know about the masked medic part... maybe the more professional side of him. He had Archimedes normally confined in his laboratory or a cage, symbolizing his confinement, and eventually he let his beloved free, since as the proverb goes "If you love something, set it free"

To me, the medic killed Archimedes by doing some experiment on him, and then, crushed with remorse, he attemps to escape reality by using halucinogenic drugs. He then meets "The fowler" (bird catcher - a biblical metaphor to describe the devil), whom is depicted as himself because he represents his cruelty and carelessness, and who comes to claim Medic's right to happiness.

With the help of his dead friends, he overcomes himself.

Through the death of his friend, he becomes a better man.
