A wound that is constantly opened with new epithelial cells exposed to the surface of the wound has the least possible chance of infection as well as decreased scar tissue. As nurses say; "Wet moist cool environment promotes the highest healing". Keep in mind that the actual process is much more in-depth for 500 characters.
