On March 4th, 2008 a tornado touched down in Big Stone Gap VA. This video is the morning after before clean-up begins. Up until the time this video was taken, reports stated that everyone was ok. Praise God!

  • God Job on the video Hurley Hate to see all the damage

  • Hi Dude, Thanks! I knew there were people that lived away but grew up in Big Stone that wondered what had happen to their town. I was awestruck when I walked on the football field that morning. No lives were lost but while helping a friend recover property from his lost home, I noticed a dead robin(bird) laying on the ground. I then realized with a humble heart that many had been blessed.

  • I still remember that tornado...

  • awww i lived there huh its been 3 years and still this towns not the same

  • @hoot46356 That's what Wise County gets for not thinking. That said, Wise County needs to invest in a siren system. Just because we are a mountainous area doesn't mean tornadoes can't come (obviously). A siren system would benefit not only Wise County but the whole region. A tornado can just jump over mountains. Nature finds a way to carry out its dreadful deeds.

  • i had just got out of school and when it hit the town afterschool was still going on but no school the next day :)

  • Just goes to show that mountains dont protect us from everything weather wise. That had to be scary.

  • This can hit you where you live don't ever think it can't because it may be your home town next we never know. Pls help us thru it lord.

  • It's rare that a Tornado would touch down at BSG because of the mountains. Even after a tornado touches down usually mountainous areas rip it apart quickly. There is no such thing as a "bowl effect" that the poster under me states. This is swirling air, not cake mix.

  • @0739334729 i live 2 miles from tis tornado and what makes this so devistating is that the natural "bowl" of mountains fucked us in the ass. think aboyt it this way, take a small bowl, then spin a top really fast inside. it will bounce off the walls and such. the tornado lands in here and it wont just go away. it gets stuck.

  • i remember all of this like it was yesterday. i was at work in appalachia when i found out about it

  • I was in this exact tornado.
