The respiratory examination is something all medics need to get to grips with, because you'll be doing lots of them in clinical practice and during OSCE's. This video takes you through the full examination step by step and you can adapt this to suit your own style.

See the written guide alongside the video at http://www.geekymedics.com/osce/respiratory-examination-2/

  • Thank you, this is really useful! I can see myself racking up quite a few views of this in the run up to my OSCE

  • @sculli722 Brilliant. Make sure to tell your fellow students too :)

  • are there any other videos on diferrential RS exam on different pathologies like COPD,PNEUMONIA,tension pnemothorax and others in which your examination and findings are confined to that specific disease????but overall was awesome...

  • @143poxy We would actually love to do this, however involving "real" patients is very complicated legally and therefore I have opted to only use my close friends who are also students.

  • thank you sooooo much you saved my ass :)

can you do a abdominal examination

  • @Mrsjack43 Thanks for the kind words. There will be an abdominal examination up here in the next day or 2 :)

  • good video.. 10x guys..this will help for my nxt osce..

  • @umar27891highlightss your absolutely correct, thanks for the great tip!

  • @emmanuelmarkfrancis The various things you need to include in the examination differs greatly between hospitals and medical schools. These videos therefore should always be taken as a general framework which you can adapt to suit what is common practice in your medical school/hospital. I would disagree that the method for check chest wall expansion was wrong, but I agree that getting the patient to cross their arms can aid in auscultation, although it's not an absolute necessity.
