I saw one of these in Italy ~ they had two squatter toilets and a regular toilet in the bathroom. I think the squatter would have splash back ~ didn't stop to find out. But...in Italy only one restaurant had a toilet seat, all public washrooms were porcelain only, with no warmer plastic seat to sit on ~ there were holes at the back of the toilet so a seat could be affixed but still no seat. I wasn't sure if they were never installed or perhaps stolen??

That is a squat toilet. You use it by squatting on the floor over the toilet with your feet planted on the toilet's sides. Notice the molded-in traction pads for the feet. The squat toilet is the most anatomically correct type of toilet because squatting is the most natural and best position for defecating. It seems to be only us Americans who don't know that.

@Cyonyst actually u sit there facing to the camera. these are considered the most hygiene public toilets, just because u dont touch anything with any part of your body.
