Dumbo's Circus - Lilli's Mystery

Here's a segment from the 1985 Disney Channel series Dumbo's Circus featuring Lilli. Here she tells the story of a woman who lives on the seventh floor of an apartment building but only takes the elevator to the fifth floor when she comes home from work.

Why does the woman do that? Oooooh, it's a mystery!

The puppets are kinda cheesey looking, but Lilli has an amazing range of facial expression...not only does she move her mouth when she talks, but her nose crinkles as well. Also, her eyes look left and right as well as blink, and she can even move her eyebrows.

Nice facial expressions on the Lilli character, nice character design,very charming.

But why do the other (puppet) characters look like something Siffle and ollie would reject?

Oh well, at least Lilli is a nice character (personality and design-wise) and seemed kid friendly.

@GanarfGeorgie Yeah, they made the Lilli head to be able to display such facial expressions...and then cheap out on the puppets.

Even as a small child watching this I remember thinking "Did they blow all their budget on the life-sized puppet/costumes and had to resort to crudely-made handpuppets for the audience?" The discrepancy between the main cast and those handpuppets always bothered the bejeesus out of me.

Ya know what? I remember having a little crush on Lilli when I was younger. Now I can remember why, she's attractive (nice looking and sweet voice) without resorting to the slutty looks you see today.
