This was shot during the Lunar New Year Festival for the Chinese Undergraduate Student Association at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign on 1/31/2009. Featured is Ryan Shi.
TASC Special Ops is a Chinese yo-yo team part of the Taiwanese American Student Club. Though it's been around for centuries as an important part of Taiwanese culture, Chinese yoyo has taken on a contemporary "spin" in Special Ops through a sexy mix of traditional and contemporary cultural elements. The team flaunts its stuff throughout the Midwest in performances, demonstrations, and workshops.
Usually the group performs with four or more people, but this performance, featuring Ryan Shi and Alex Susanto, showcases the captivating magic of a rare duo performance to Ne-Yo's "Closer" and other contemporary beats.
TASC Special Ops also holds yo-yo sessions every Monday, 7:30-9:00 pm, at the Armory Track. For more information, please e-mail Ryan Shi at ryanshi2@uiuc.edu.
