@63utuber My point was or should've been Burns and Allen didn't like Mary cause they didn't think she was good enough for Jack plus they did think he should've married someone else.

@rathraven1313 Guess again - Jack wasn't his real name. For that matter, George wasn't his real name.

@63utuber Cause Mary wasn't her real name. It was based on character from Jack's show. She changed it when she married Jack. Plus they thought he should've married someone else.

This is a glimpse into 1950's consumer America but we were producing most of the stuff so it was all good and I grew up and flourished...

If he said that, the "social climber" line made no sense - all four were from humble backgrounds, so by definition every one of them had to be a "social climber" as they became successful.

Never saw this episode...a classic. And not to mention Ike's wedding picture! Thanks so much for bringing this to us all.

Jack reportedly was quite a ladies man before he met Mary, and even after they were married he reportedly had some trysts (Burns and Joan Benny confirmed that Mary could be a cold fish, so it is no wonder). Cute how Benny kept kissing Gracie at the end, right on the lips. That last kiss was pretty intense. Lucky Jack!

At 7:45, George drops Gracie's hand, but Jack keeps holding on for another five seconds, until they both awkwardly take their hands back. Lol. :)
Hehe!! so funny, great old fashioned comedy is all I ever want, thanks for uploading these gems. Zipped pockets, yummy rich carnation custards, Funny Jack, love the way he annoys George,'What did you say George?' Muaah!!!
Now I wish for a timemachine, to go back to this era.

They had to acknowledge Jack's sponsor at the end of the program because American Tobacco was the one that "officially" allowed Jack permission to appear on his friend's program; if Jack had been sponsored by, say, Pet Evaporated Milk, he could NEVER have appeared, because of potential sponsor conflicts. That's why Jack never appeared on "I LOVE LUCY" {Lucky Strike vs. Lucy's sponsor, Philip Morris}.
