This traditional Shaker melody is played in Open D tuning (A D A D) and relatively simple to play (all within the second and fourth frets) especially with the Open D droning chord to fall back on and strum occasionally. I first heard this song on the PBS Lewis & Clark TV documentary, which has lots of beautiful acoustic music for background. You've likely heard this same melody in church, since the melody has been adopted for a religious song of the same name (I believe).

  • molto dolce ... good tune ... and a nice, surprising tone from that ovation.

  • Yeah, I keep playing this plastic-backed black beauty to annoy you and your wood purist ilk (of which I wish I was numbered...). I can't keep up with your voluminous YouTube output nor with your consistent quality, but I get at it when I can, which hasn't been very often for quite a while. Thanks for the comment, Bill.
