I posted a recent video of this song containing images but thought I would have a go at a more personal rendition. I wrote the song in1999 for my son, Graeme. From a tender age I had steered him into studying law. To cut a long story short, he was getting near to finishing his Law Degree but had decided he didn't want to be a lawyer anymore. In fact he didn't want to work for anyone. He wanted to prove that he could make it on his own. At this time, he was also the lead singer in a band - hence the blues guitar. This song tells him that I understand - that I am with him all the way - that I believe in him and that he should believe in himself. He did build up to become a successful business man with well-equipped premises and several employees. However, of late, he has seen the light - sick of worrying to pay employees wages, government taxes, burglars handouts and insurance etc. - he has scaled things down and now just very happily works small hours for himself, by himself.

  • A very touching back story. Nice one Bob. Enjoyed the busy bass line and the catchy chorus. Great production and insightful words of wisdom my friend.

  • @navim49 Thank you Navim for those smashing comments, they are appreciated. The bass line was one of the products of my colaboration with my bass guitar teacher during lessons many moons ago. Thank you for commenting on this. From a bass player, as yourself, it is very nice to hear. Have a great Christmas and New Tear my friend. Bob

  • Very "Beatlesque" and for a songwriter it don't get much better than that. Great tune with a great message. Cool.
