Korean Dips are extremely effective at increasing shoulder girdle flexibility while simultaneously building dipping strength. They are especially valuable for those who have been increasing maximal strength at the expense of maintaining their athletic mobility.

The GB program details and Xtreme Rings which developed much of this athlete's strength are available here:

  • Coach Sommer, every time i try doing korean dips I get stuck on the way up, my butt seems to get in the way of the bar (what can i say, i like doing squats). Any suggestions ?

  • Keep your shoulders in front of your hands longer during the ascent.

  • why is this called Korean Dips? I'm Korean and I'm seriously curious about this

  • Because the person who taught these to me years ago learned them in Korea :)

  • I do these often, originally from just sitting on a bar, and falling forward, catching myself in the behind the back dip

  • I do not recommend falling into this exercise. Korean dips should be performed in a controlled manner to maximize the benefits from this movement.

  • I actually did faceplanted while doing that at the park nonetheless! But nobody laughed because they fear the intensity.

  • Technically, any exercise that involves moving your body through space is calisthenic, whether it is weighted or not.

Did you know that the word "calisthenics" comes from two greek words, Kalos and Sthenos?

Kalos means "Beauty" and Sthenos means "Strength."

Calisthenics is the art of building beauty through strength, typically by moving the body through space. Added weight does not make any exercise less calisthenic.

For some exercises there is weight added when the athletes are ready.

  • @RioXavier I did faceplant too, but all my workout buddies Laughed so loud that the runners around the track stopped to see what was so funny!

But I'm still the one of the few who dares do them so it's ok! ;)

  • @PullUps88 Triceps, front deltoids as primaries, chest and lats as secondaries. Tons of rotator and core too.

  • Ok, I can do about 50% of your vids but this one ate me alive. I stood no chance.
