@possumverde yes. mass is just a concentrated form of energy (from e=mc2). so the mass that is sucked into the black hole is radiated out as heat (which is a form of energy) and so no matter would actually be lost. this was my conclusion anyway.

I wonder what it'd be like to go through a black hole. Aside from the fact that you'd be stretched, squished and ripped into a billion pieces :p

Since according to Hawking black holes radiate heat and eventually evaporate, wouldn't the radiated heat just be the information being released only in a different state than when it went in?
