In 1981 there was a meeting of physicists to try and decode some of the mysteries about how particles of particular elemental compounds function. During this discussion Stephen Hawking stated that the information inside a black hole is lost forever as the black hole evaporates where as Leonard Susskind had other idea's. This feud of the titans would become one ingrained in scientific history.

  • I swear I lost a set of keys down a black hole, this documentary proves it..The keys just...vanished

  • Since according to Hawking black holes radiate heat and eventually evaporate, wouldn't the radiated heat just be the information being released only in a different state than when it went in?

  • @possumverde yes. mass is just a concentrated form of energy (from e=mc2). so the mass that is sucked into the black hole is radiated out as heat (which is a form of energy) and so no matter would actually be lost. this was my conclusion anyway.

  • @Cheetree1 Only physics since we can't know everything.

  • I wonder what it'd be like to go through a black hole. Aside from the fact that you'd be stretched, squished and ripped into a billion pieces :p

  • science is self contradicting

  • @possumverde Yeah?? That's the same thing. I mean a bushfire? Smoke goes somewhere right?

  • Blackholes are like the garbage men. We need someone to clean up the universe at times.

  • the science of guessing
