Our SIGGRAPH 2010 submission uses a single projector-camera system and a set of linear drop generator manifolds to create a multi-layered water drop display that can be used for text, videos, and interactive games.

Using a projector and rows of water drop emitters, we create a multi-layer display that can be used for text, videos, and interactive games.

For a non-technical version of the video, check out www.youtube.com/watch?v=3q3FFn4bAEA . For an even more technical version, go to our website at www.cs.cmu.edu/~ILIM/projects/IL/waterDisplay2/index.html

  • That's very interesting. Is the water pumped right back up in the water container?

  • @aboodankaboot Yes, the water is filtered and recycled. If you go to 0:12, you can see a red hose snaking up from the collector.

  • @JogBird and @fireryone

If you can make a version of Crysis or Doom that outputs three depths instead of one, we can put it on the display ;-). We spent most of our time making the display itself, rather than games, so Tetris is all you get for now.

  • WOW - how much money this project cost you?

  • you can't play tetris with it... you'd have to pee every minute because of the sound of the water

  • Brilliant, very inspiring stuff.

  • Is it feasbile to project still/moving image onto the water screen? I note you use graphic based animation as opposed to still frame?

  • You're not very good at tetris ;-)

  • @apokkalyps

    lets keep it calm. ok:)

you r right man, there is the same amount of water.

but im talking about water that can be used for manufacturing or daily purposes. there is never same amount of such water

imagen this pointless and just for fun "display" will become pop as TFT or LED.

the water will evaporate immideately, especially in a hot day.

this tech wastes water, space, electricity and few years ago some idiots showed

the same project, but they used steam instead of water.

do you think when water goes down your drain it is flung off of the earth or gets ground up and sent to hell by a black hole?

besides, he said the water is pumped back up in the red tube. troll

explain to me how any water is ever wasted (ever)... unless its shot out of th eatmosphere into the sun.

there is the SAME amount of water on this planet as there was 4 billion years ago!
