When someone told me that it is too expensive to plant a garden, I still planted a garden and I canned all my orchard produce and what I had to throw away I dug a hole in the garden and composted it. I hauled my own wood for free and chopped it myself for firewood and had no fuel bills. I was a homemaker for 21 years and loved it!! Freedom comes with work but it is worth it!! I wholeheartedly agree about staying small!

The vast majority of Americans have forgotten, or never learned, how to plant a garden or make food from a garden.

In the Great Depression, most people lived on a farm or grew gardens in their back yards. Women knew how to make decent food from those gardens. Not so, today.
