Quadrophenia is the sixth album by the English rock band The Who. Released on 19 October 1973, Quadrophenia is a double album, and the group's second rock opera. Its story involves social, musical, and psychological happenings from an English teenage perspective, set in London and Brighton in 1964 and 1965. The name is a variation on the incorrect popular usage of the medical diagnostic term schizophrenia as multiple personality disorder to reflect the four distinct personalities of Jimmy, the opera's protagonist—each said to represent the personality of one member of The Who. The title also referenced the Quadraphonic sound schemes then being introduced.

Songs Included:

07) THE DIRTY JOBS
08) HELPLESS DANCER

Enjoy the Quad. series. Feel free to comment and rate, and even feedback about my series. Thanks!

  • What song is at the end of Helpless dancer? It sounds Beatley, but I don't think it is. It's driving me insane

  • That's an easy one, lol. It's called 'The Kids are Alright' by The Who, coincidentally.

When I first heard The Kids are Alright, I thought to myself that it definitely sounds Beatle-esque. Haha.

  • well, thank you. Its been bugging me since I got Quadrophenia about a year ago.

  • No problem. I'm glad to end your mania, haha.

  • 4:58 starts helpless dancer - about

  • Umm no it actually doesn't. When I make my vids, I make the slides that tell when the song starts, aligned with the song track. So I start it right when it starts. How does it start at 4:58? The song already began like 20 seconds before that, wtf are you talking about?

  • I truely, honestly believe this is The Who's best album, better than Tommy, and one of the best in rock history. The arrengements, lyrics, playing, virtuosism, orchestra, everything is the highest point The Who has been. Totally underrated. It's like The Beatles: people only talk about Sergeant Pepper when Abby Road is way better. The fist time I heard Quadrophenia it was the same time I understood what the Opera Rock concept really meant.

  • the greatest album ever made fella.

  • Is that riff from "The Rock" the "Helpless Dancer" theme?

  • I feel blessed that I got to see Quadraphenia performed in full before John passed away. Definetally a highlight in my life, right along with seeing Tommy live on Broadway, front row first balcony at the St.James Theater...

  • The reason why i picked up the Bass Guitar last year.. and now, Quadrophenia is more relevant to me (and i guess most of us) than ever! The way of life! :-)

  • The thing - among others - that I like about Helpless Dancer is how each line comes out of alternating speakers. It's Rogers theme (that facet of Jimmy's personality) but it also speaks of a possible split even within that facet. Like he's talking to himself or using two voices at once. Or something.

  • @RockRevivalist Probably don't need to have this pointed out, but in the story, Jimmy goes to see The Who and the use of TKAA is meant to be the band's performance.

  • genius...pure genius

  • You gotta' dig Entwistle's God-like bass on this one -- on every one!

  • YOU STOPPED DANCING..................

  • helpless dancer makes me want to break something. i don't know why
