Darrell G. Kirch, MD, President, Association of American Medical Colleges, Washington, DC, describes major changes in American medical education. From Medscape General Medicine http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/562605
The "changes" stated are for the most part recent, from the last 10 years. None come close to dramatic changes brought about by the Flexner report 100 years ago. Lectures still provide the bulk of education in the first two years of medical school, and to a only slightly lesser degree throughout a doctor's career.
We can only hope for that maybe a similar expose' published in 2010 will bring about substantial change in medical education.
