You can give it a try. Let me know how it works. I was using the heavier cotton in the video tutorial so that is why I decided to sew them together. If you are using yarn it might crochet together nicer.

I used cotton 4-ply in the tutorial. You can use it with regular 4-ply worsted weight.

why is it called a magic pot holder. does it do somethin?

The fold is why it is called magic. You take the pouch section and turn it in to a square.
