Bob helped me launch in a nice stronger cycle, which got me above launch where I continued to find small thermals along the ridge.

The lift was kind of spotty and small so it was hard to get in and stay in. But I managed to stay up for over 15 minutes, a new personal record! ;-)

  • Thanks Andy. It would have been great if I'd gotten this comment before another flight I had at the same launch a couple of months later. I flew so slow I lost control of my glider and did end up in the trees!

I'll be posting that video at some point, when I get around to editing it. I want others to learn from my mistakes.

  • David, what type of camera are you using, at what settings? Where did you have the camera mounted on your glider? The footage is beautiful.

  • Yikes, that was scary! You don't ridge soar or thermal effectively by flying that slowly. I lost count of how many times you would have spun into the trees had you been flying a more advanced glider.

Sorry to rain on your parade but please don't do that again. Fly with way more speed. :>)
