I feel right at home watching this <3. My parents moved the family to the Roman rite after we moved and the closest Byzantine church was 45 minutes away! I cannot thank you enough for posting this!
"long" is relative. If you listen to the beautiful words of the liturgy and participate in the chanting, it's not long at all. Depending on the length of the sermon and any special litanies for holy days, etc., then the average length of the liturgy is 1-1/4 hours -- not much longer than a traditional Roman Catholic mass.
I've wanted to go to one of these masses for a while to experience it. I grew up on Novus Ordo, and now currently in the traditional mass. I've been to a charismatic mass, I've yet to experience Byzantine I am told they're long though.
"Mass" is term properly belonging to the Roman Catholic liturgy. The term comes from the phrase, near the end, Ite missa est (go, you are dismissed), and the term "missa" (English = Mass) became the term for the entire liturgy.
In the Byzantine Rite, the "Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom" is celebrated. The doors block our view, to symbolize that we cannot see heaven, and that when the doors open during the liturgy, we catch a glimpse of heaven.
This is so beautiful! I am a Roman Catholic and I think that the Byzantine rite is awesome! I love how only certain people can enter the gated area where Mass takes place. It reminds me of the Temple in Jerusalem where only the High Priest can enter the Holy of Holies.
I had the priviledge to attend the Divine Liturgy for the first time today (I am Roman Catholic). BEAUTIFUL

Look what I found... That's Mrs. Stefanchik sitting toward the back in grey
top just in front on the Cantor's podium.

Beautiful. But the title of the video needs to be changed: "Mass" to "Liturgy".
