@JAVMAN83 he have thrown 95+ in training. Much depends on the wind conditions also, for instance his 2008 olympic winning throw would have gone much further with some nice tail wind.
@JAVMAN83 Ok understood but how much experience or to what level of javelin do you have so that you can place judgement on an athlete like Thorkildsen?
By allowing the left arm to sweep left and downward too early in the delivery, he is "opening" his body and negating any torque that could have been derived from the hip-shoulder separation. He'll NEVER throw beyond 92.50m, and unfortunately with today's crop of throwers, technique is sorely lacking.
Got news for anybody hoping Thorki will be anything but a 91m thrower in his lifetime, but it is precisely his technique that is holding him back from going 95m or farther. He is a tremendously gifted and hard-working athlete, and has a great run-up, but it is in his blocking phase that he is his own worst enemy.
He has amaIng technique. He keeps everthing going straight and has great rythm. If you notice on the penaultimate step his right foot is pointed straight down field which opens up his hips followed by the left arm being pulled down.
I agree.. Technique of Thorkildsen seems to be so near perfect.
When a javelin leaves from his hand, it seems not vibrate at all.. even when Zelezny threw, the javelin was often like a noodle, but he has of course extreme power in his throws. And the day when his technique hit the power, we saw the results.
i agree he has amazing form, my coach always sends me his videos, but if anybody is gonna break the record any time soon i think it will be pitkimaki... if he could manage to throw without flying and gained speed in his approach i think he'd be throwing upwards of 95m
