I am glad you don't take guys like garagewhatshisface seriously. Unless you are doing some really fucking crazy stuff on a bike it isn't the frame that's gonna fail. I was chatting with a few of the guys from Trek and they said that they had stress tested the 3700's frame on small jumps with a 500lb rider and not had a failure. You aren't...500lbs are you? :)
I know what you mean.. The thing is my TREK 3700 was a gift from my sister. And I have no heart to give it away.. The frame itself is really good except for the stock components. So why not upgrade the components on my own I thought.. And so I did... After changing the cranks to XTR, my bike weight reduced significantly..
Awesome.. Just fitted my bike with the top normal long cage XTR Rear Derailleur.. I'm riding a TREK 3700.. Definitely lighter, performs better and looks better than the stock Acera.. Rides very smoothly now.. Will be getting the XTR Crankset soon....
