First noticed the beginnings of hikui on this showa in August 2008. This video was taken at the end of Novenber 2008. It is now January 2009 and the hikui has spread to one more patch of red but overall it has yet to cross the threshold to being unsightly.
Today's science knows no cure for hikui. In fact, nobody really knows what causes it. All we can do is try our best to slow down the deterioration with good water and good food. This is my 2nd koi which contracted hikui. The 1st went from beauty to beast in 3 months only. This time round, 5 months have passed already and it is still not unsightly enough to cull yet.
