  • His brother is thirteen and doesn't like touching paper, but I'm pretty sure just because he's uncomfortable with that, you aren't suggesting he not attend school or learn to write - correct?

TheHightFamily - thanks for the opportunity to further inform uneducated people with regard to autsism. ;)

  • We could, however, cater to their every 'discomfort' and allow them to sit in a room alone every day, 24/7 playing video games, but how would that help them with regard to social ineptitude? The idea is to get them used to the world around them as much as possible, not segregate them from the rest of us. Little by little, in order for Jax to get used to integrating in elementary school with regular ED kids, he will have to slowly do things that cause him discomfort.

  • TheHightFamily - I appreciate the question, since it allows me to further educate you with regard to autism - something you clearly need. Autistic persons tend to 'be uncomfortable' doing many things necessary to fit into the outside world. Everything from toileting to things like eating with others, to being in crowds - they must be regularly challenged in order to be integrated into society in a meaningful way. Letting them do nothing that makes them uncomfortable isn't beneficial to them.

  • So what was the point of forcing him to do something he was that uncomfortable doing? For the cute pictures and the self-serving video to be placed on YouTube?

  • I love this video! I cried through it. I am so proud of him, you would have thought he was mine.
