I originally wrote this for piano about two years ago calling it "Chimes" because I was inspired by the notes of the chimes in my backyard: FGACDEb.... it's a cool combination of notes because it's almost like it's in the key of Bb WITHOUT the Bb haha. So what I did was base the piece on those six notes....

So....three days ago I decided to arrange it for these instruments!!! This is the results. Much cooler than on piano lawl.

I'm a little worried now....I ran out of material so for the rest of it I need to write new music.

Does anyone feel like this is like a minimalist/video game style?

Comments, suggestions, and critique are encouraged!

(Ignore some of my articulations... I forgot to slur a lot of the flute).

  • fantastic! it sounds great and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. don't worry about minimalistic, blah blah. it's not always a bad thing.

my advice is to go on with it and elaborate more. play with silence. if you're basing on the notes on your wind chimes then you've given yourself a pretty tonally strict mold. do what you can with it. you may take all of the intervals in the scale and raise or lower them to get an "outside" sound. play with it and be creative. great stuff!

  • I actually finished. It's 7 minutes long, and the beginning is COMPLETELY diferent.. I have the strings harmonizing with pizz... it's dope! My teacher's idea actually.

  • I kind of pity your performers... All those staccato 16th notes... Definitely sounds like an 8-bit menu screen song.

  • LMAO!!!!!!!! Your too funny =)

  • this is kinda minimalist...not reallllllyy but has some of the same elements...i personally hate minimalist but that's just me. really cool piece tho! the next section should be slow and should have a big clarinet solo ^_^ because like the clarinet doesn't even come in for a while...

  • OH OH OH don't get me wrong, I hate minimalism just as much as you haha.

  • Damn that's a nice piece for a video game opening.

It sounds weird, but very ingenious as well.

  • isnt really bad..it just dont have any emotion..you should take a look at rimsky-korsakov orchestration manual...if youplan to writte for real instrument that wont do...it would be appropriate for electronic music dought....but for real instrumentist it just lack devloppement expression and it dont follow the natural registry of the intruments..my opinion.

  • written with a mouse directly in a computer i guess...sound a bit like it...i doubt it would sound very nice on real instrument....because obviouly you dont have knowledge of orchestration...

  • the clarinet really adds that weird video game sound

  • check out Ricardo Acosta's sonata for piano and violin :D:D you won't believe it

  • Wow this is amazing. You're very talented. :D
