the crew of A122G in action in Iraq in the M1117 Armored Security Vehicle. the vehicle is basically a glorified humvee. it has a .50 cal machine gun and 40mm belt fed grenade launcher. it is suppose to give us more protection against roadside bombs (in theory) when we do convoy security duty. California Army National Guard

It was much more widespread and sanctioned by the government....which means that it was swept under the rug as far as the media goes. As I stated, we gave the insurgency some life, and a target....but they have even scaled back considerably in Iraq.
Saddam used freakin' VX against the Kurds....that alone should have brought the UN down on them. Saddam was lucky it took us this long.
Trust me, a majority of the Iraqis are very, very grateful.

So, I know these things carry M249s as a secondary weapon and that they're mounted outside the gunner's hatch. But for the life of me I can't spot them in ANY of the ASV pictures I've found. Do you know of any good pics?

ASV is not a "glorified Humvee" by any meeans. It is a purpose built vehicle. Nothing similiar to a Humvee, I have operated both.

the main weapon system is the MK19 40mm automatic grenade launcher. the secondary is the .50cal machine gun. then after that there is a M249 SAW mounted outside the gunner's top hatch. after that there are your rifles and pistols... enough guns to stay in the fight.
