High Tide's Brad Jessmer and Chris Cerna play Blackberry Blossom at Oahu's Ward's Rafters. High Tide is Hawaii's Bluegrass band, but has a great sound and is solid driving. They have earned a huge following among Bluegrass fans and those who have never experienced Bluegrass before in the islands. Brad Jessmer, Banjo/guitar; Chris Cerna, Mandolin, Doug Teows, Bass, and Brandon Ing, guitar. Ward's Rafters is traditionally a private Jazz club, but High Tide has been welcomed overwhelmingly into the Jazz community. Pure heartfelt accoustic music and vocals. Brad Jessmer, who is an active duty Air Force Major, brought his sound to the Islands, and with the help of Chris and Doug, put together a great band. Getting better and better all the time, High Tide is spreading Bluegrass throughout the Hawaii. For more on High Tide, go to www.bluegrasshawaii.com

  • Great stuff!!! You are a fantastic banjo player, and that other guy is mad on the mandolin. I wish I was in Hawaii so we could jam! I hope you all rotate to Ft Stewart GA. We could use some more bluegrass talent here! Keep jammin

  • Thanks. I'm actually leaving the Air Force (after 12 years) and moving to Dayton, OH. I lived in Valdosta, GA a few years ago and played for Southern Lite. I miss GA. Got a good female Mando player and singer here from GA... lots of talent from there.

  • Great Job. What banjo roles are you using to back him up? Or are you vamping or a mixture of the two? I am trying to learn back up for this song and could use some ideas. Thanks

  • Thanks for the comment. If I were playing with a band, I would play back-up and maybe chop the offbeat some when the Mandolin took a break, but since it's just Banjo and Mandolin, I use the Banjo for rythm while he's playing. That keeps the music smooth and leaves little gap. Esentially, here I'm keeping the tune smooth and flowing my playing a solid role of the tune and lead-ins to each chord.
