This is my attempt at a DIY Softbox. It is made from the following materials:
1 Can Silver spray paint
1 Can Flat Black spray paint
1 Clear Bubble Umbrella
1 White Shower Curtain Liner
12 Feet Sticky Back Velcro
1 Roll 2" Masking Tape

Tools:
Scissors
Mini Tubing Cutter or Hacksaw

You can find a tubing cutter at the local hardware or home improvement center. They are located in the plumbing section for cutting small diameter copper tubing.

The flash is mounted using a standard umbrella flash bracket. The flash is inside the soft box pointed toward the umbrella.

The silver side looks great. It may be worth trying on a Softlighter, sice the Photek umbrella comes in white and not silver.

You could just purchase this on Amazon for 30 dollars and save yourself from all the paint fumes.. Just do a search for "Off Camera Photography Photo Studio Umbrella type 30" Octogon Softbox" $29.99...

Very well done...as far as attaching the light goes, you can purchase an "umbrella off-camera adaptor" (simply search that on google images) that mounts the umbrella onto a flash stand,,,you simply make a small hole in the side of the umbrella...or, you could gently clamp the pointy end of the umbrella on the outside to a C-stand knuckle.
