Raw Drums on iPhone 3GS

How DOES the iPhone 3GS perform for drummers? Here is a sample (unedited except for converting the original MOV file to M4V in iTunes) video recorded solely with the new iPhone 3GS. You can see that, despite being so close to the drums, the sound is not that bad! It brings out the hi-hats and cymbals nicely; but sometimes the drums can be a bit distorted (a challenge for all mics/recording, not a fault of the iPhone). Overall, though, I am totally impressed with the sound.

My next idea is to try some alternative approaches using just the iPhone without any accessories. We'll see how that goes. And who knows, maybe at some point I'll get my hands on a device that allows me to control the gain going into the iPhone - but that's a project at a later date and time I think.
