@kramer911 yes but being an athlete is when you can play any sport well. Bo Jackson was an athlete. Micheal Phelps can only swim and thats it.

well all you guys tell me. Does Kobe, Lebron, and Phelps all sit in a 110 degrees car for 4 hours straight. NO! Do they all lose almost 10 lbs in 4 hours. NO! And did any of them win 4 CHAMPIONSHIPS IN A ROW! NO! And to finish up, Jimmie Johnson was named Athlete of The Year. Yeah, he really shouldn't have been nominated.

are you retarded? how exactly would manny qualify for the best athlete against micheal phelps? hes a great fighter for sure, but fighters only have like 3 or 4 fights a year, micheal phelps won 8 gold medals, kobe bryant had a ridiculous year, just because hes not american or black isn't the reason he didn't get nominated, its because there were more qualified people...except for jimmy johnson..ill give you that one

Because we are stupid, just like how they keep saying "World" during the Awards Show when talking about sports that only get played in AMerica, when the only sport that matters to the world is Soccer, even though US soccer did get some awards, but still..we are very ignorant at times.

Does anyone also think who invalid this whole argument is? Tebow was up for College Male Athlete...all these men are professionals. Why would he be in their category???
